There are lots of historic and wonderful things to see in Nagasaki but the heat is brutal. Jackson and I walked through a park to a department store and it was so miserable that I didn’t even take any photos. Lots of people, residents and visitors, shop in Japan because the variety is endless and the quality is excellent. Lots of styles and products not available in the US. Even with the AC in the building I was just too uncomfortable to take advantage of where I was. We hopped a cab back to the ship. As it was I walked 3 miles that day.
The next morning my cousin and sketch partner, Cheri, (well, second cousin) stepped a few feet out of the immigration building to find some buildings to sketch. I perched on my little folding stool (weighs less than 2 lbs and fits in my backpack) in the shade of a tree and enjoyed making this quick sketch. I wish I could tell you what the building is, but don’t know.
This sweet little unlikely foursome greeted us as we exited immigration:
Gorgeous kimonos and fabrics are available everywhere and it’s a good thing they don’t come in my size because I’d buy one and wouldn’t ever know where to wear it. Just for the beauty of it. As it turned out there were some groups selling things inside the terminal where there was AC. How could I resist. I bought a dress I’ll most likely never wear. But it’s so pretty I hung it on my wall for decoration. Since all the walls are steel you can hang things up with magnets. Ever changing decor. Maybe I’ll wear it to dinner tonight. I also bought some beautiful scarves. How could I not?
OK so it was too hot to see much of Nagasaki so I shopped in the terminal building.
The next morning we had to muster, to practice what to do and where to go in case of an emergency. So I’m prepared. I know where to go and where my lifeboat is. In case.
We are now in Jeju South Korea. Still hot. I don’t know what I’ll have to share about this stop. Tomorrow will tell. I always enjoy my time shipboard.
Of course it sounds wonderful! And the dress will look great on you. The scars may come in handy to mop u the sweat. Carry on!
